Position Description
The Operations Support FWS position will assist the Operations and Facilities department in the daily functions of campus public safety, event setup and breakdown, facilities maintenance, and custodial services. This role supports a safe, clean, and well-maintained campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Duties include assisting with event logistics, basic maintenance and custodial tasks, and general support of campus safety operations under the direction of professional staff.
Responsibilities
General
- Report to assigned work area promptly and follow the daily task schedule provided by the supervisor.
- Provide courteous, professional assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Observe and report unsafe conditions, damage, or maintenance needs to the supervisor immediately.
- Follow all campus safety, health, and PPE protocols for the task being performed.
- Work effectively with full-time Operations staff and other student workers to complete assigned tasks.
Public Safety Support
- Assist Public Safety staff with routine, non-enforcement duties such as building access support, monitoring building entrances, and escort requests.
- Observe and report suspicious activity, safety hazards, or policy violations to Public Safety staff.
- Assist with distribution of parking permits, visitor passes, or safety notices as directed.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills, as assigned.
Events Management Setup and Breakdown
- Set up and break down tables, chairs, staging, signage, and equipment for campus events.
- Assist with room and venue readiness checks ahead of scheduled events.
- Transport and store event equipment and furniture safely and correctly after use.
- Provide on-site support during events, including monitoring room conditions and troubleshooting basic setup issues.
Facilities Maintenance Support
- Assist maintenance staff with minor repairs, preventive maintenance tasks, and work order follow-up.
- Help inspect campus buildings and grounds for maintenance issues and report findings to staff.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, or supplies between buildings as needed.
- Support seasonal tasks such as grounds upkeep, snow/ice response preparation, or move-in/move-out logistics.
Custodial Support
- Assist custodial staff with cleaning, trash removal, and restocking of supplies in assigned buildings.
- Help maintain clean, sanitary, and presentable common areas, restrooms, and event spaces.
- Report low supply levels, equipment issues, or facility concerns to custodial or facilities staff.
Other Duties
- Assist with special campus events, emergency response support, or seasonal projects as needed.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Operations and Facilities leadership to support overall department operations.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student and eligible for FWS.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, standing, walking, and light equipment handling.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and event-based schedules.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work respectfully with staff, students, and visitors.
- Previous experience in facilities, custodial, safety, or event support is a plus but not required.
